Alan Khoi Nguyen is a writer and director working in TV (SBS, NBCU, ABC) theatre (Melbourne Theatre Company) and extended reality (EyeJack, Creative Victoria). 

He frequently collaborates with his brother, Jeremy Nguyen.



Alan was a writer for the SBS television miniseries Hungry Ghosts (Matchbox/NBC Universal), nominated for AWGIE and AACTA awards in 2020. He has worked in writers rooms and written scripts for SBS/December Media and SBS/Space Invaders. Alan's directorial film work has broadcast on ABC and won awards & screened at film festivals internationally. 

Alan served as writer, director & producer of a VR science-based nature documentary (Creative Victoria), writer and editor for groundbreaking AR comic book anthologies (published by EyeJack), and VR designer for a videographic opera (Arts South Australia).


As a musician, his compositions have been played on Triple J and ABC Classic FM and he has performed music in Australia, Asia and Europe.


As a media academic, he has delivered presentations at international conferences in Japan, Singapore and Korea. He received his Doctor of Visual Arts qualification from the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University.

Alan is a Lecturer in Media for the School of Media and Communication, RMIT University and is a member of the Care-full Design Lab and the Screen and Sound Cultures Group.
